Ford Escort RS 1600 (MKI) – chassis #BFATMR81879
🏁 Few cars have left such an indelible mark on the history of motoring and motor racing as the Ford Escort. Launched in 1968, the first-generation Escort later known as the MKI, brought joy to drivers at every level, whether in rallying, circuit racing or hillclimbing.
🇮🇹 Based in Treviglio, Lombardy, Gabriele Terzi was Italy’s leading specialist in Ford Escort Group 2 cars. He built and entered numerous MKI and MKII Escorts, and the cars bearing his name became synonymous with quality and performance. It was to this renowned specialist that historic-rally enthusiast Rino Righi entrusted an Escort he had discovered in a garage in 2000, with the aim of preparing it for competition. The build of the Escort RS1600 at Terzi’s workshop took two years.
From 2003 onwards, Righi competed in historic rallies across Italy, including the Sanremo Rally Storico, Elba Storico and Alpi Orientali Storico. Over the years, the car was fitted with a 2.0-litre aluminium BDG engine by Tony Thompson (UK).
